Bei Weiss- und Schwarzkunst entsteht eine freie Gruppe, um den Steindruck zu erlernen.
Zu diesem Zweck sind zwei Ateliertage pro Monat für euch reserviert, um das materielle und immaterielle Kulturerbe rund um den Steindruck und besonders um die Litho-Schnellpresse «Johannisberg 1911» zu erfahren.
Ihr trefft euch periodisch im Atelier JB1911 zum Drucken. Die Gruppe arbeitet autonom. Das Programm entsteht aus der Gruppe, mit Tagesaufgaben wie Farbverläufe (Irisdruck), feine Linien oder Passergenauigkeit zu drucken. Die künstlerische Komponente hat nicht erste Priorität; sie wird sich mit dir sicher einfinden.
Willy Etter, Maschinenmonteur der Johannisberg: «Um den Steindruck auf der Johannisberg 1911 zu erlernen, benötigt es viel Übung, Routine und für Mensch und Maschine Sorgfalt und Sicherheit. Beim Drucken werden Fragen, Herausforderungen und Probleme auftauchen. Dann laden wir unsere Freunde und Steindrucker Ernst Hanke und Paul Burkart ein, um von ihnen zu lernen.»

An interesting offer to learn about lithography
Dear Artist
My name is Yvonne Camenzind, and I am one of the initiators of the association Weiss- und Schwarzkunst in Hochdorf, Lucerne.
The 130 members support our studios dedicated to letterpress printing, hand typesetting, lithography, papermaking and traditional bookbinding. As a result, artists are free to use the studios and our entire machine park for two days each month.
At the moment, we are highlighting the JB1911 lithography studio through our campaign “Lerne Steindruck” where lithographers pass on their endangered know-how: From the processing of stones to the transfer of drawings, to the printing with the Johannisberg 1911 in particular. This high-speed lithographic press is one of only two in Switzerland and is uniquely able to print large poster format with precise registration.
It is our mission to preserve and sustain this important piece of UNESCO cultural heritage through letting it shine and inspire new generations. Ernst Hanke and Paul Burkart, our trusted guardians of this hefty machine, are 80 years old and want to convey to you they knowledge. Visarte Zentralschweiz published our call to action in their newsletter last week and one artist is already on board.

Learn lithography!
The Johannisberg 1911 awaits you at the Weiss- und Schwarzkunst association in Hochdorf, Lucerne. This remarkable press, from the Matthieu publishing house in Zurich, has been used to print works for renowned artists such as Marc Chagall, Oskar Kokoschka, Hans Erni, and many more. Additionally, the Lucerne School of Design, Film and Art has taken up residence in our studios, offering access to a variety of lithography presses.
What it’s all about:
JB1911 – Learn lithography
For the past two years, we’ve been fortunate to call a real treasure our own: the ‘Johannisberg 1911’ lithographic high-speed press, designed for particularly large formats.
We are looking for artists interested in forming an independent collective to learn lithography on the Johannisberg 1911. Lithographer Ernst Hanke and his wife Erika have spent decades printing lithographs for Dutch publishers in the Bernese Oberland. They are eager to pass on their craft to you. Take this opportunity to create artist prints, connect with UNESCO cultural heritage, and make it your own!
The association has decided to make the studio available free of charge for two days each month, allowing for teaching, printing, exhibitions, events, and more. We look forward to welcoming you.
